The Stanford Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital project included the build-out of the state-of-the-art, 16,435-square-foot Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center. Located on the first floor of the newly opened LEED® TM Gold Certified hospital, the center is an outpatient clinic that provides critical neurodiagnostic, cardiology and pulmonary diagnostics services. The space includes 7 cardiology exam rooms, 7 echo treatment rooms, 3 pulmonary treatment rooms, 3 EEG treatment rooms, and support facilities. The clinic expands Stanford’s 2020-2021 U.S. News & World Reports’ Best Hospital Ranking, which includes 10 nationally ranked pediatric specialties—one of which is pediatric cardiology and heart surgery.

Pan-Pacific Mechanical performed the plumbing scope on the project including domestic plumbing systems such as domestic hot & cold, sanitary waste & vent, storm drain, irrigation, gas and all related equipment. From the start of the project, Swinerton stressed the importance of completing the project on time, no matter the circumstances. With a deadline of August 2019, the team launched the project in October, two weeks later than originally planned. PPM was quick to get the project jump started. Other challenges arrived in late October, when the overhead rough-in activities were shut down on multiple occasions.

Our crew learned valuable lessons throughout the complex remodel working within an active hospital. The hospital had noise and vibration restrictions in PICU sensitive areas which allowed crews to only be able to drill for two hours during an assigned time-frame. Despite the challenges, Pan-Pacific was able to overcome the interruptions and push the project to an on-time completion.
